Men's 2s vs Warwick 2

Telford 2’s V Warick 2’s at home

Telford 2nd team faced off against Warwick 2nd team with both teams eager to claim victory. Telford had some notable changes in their lineup, including the return of Liam H, who, like AJ, had not graced the second team in over 18 years. Additionally, Will L made his return to the squad after playing for Telford 3's the previous week. However, Telford was without the services of Bully, who opted for a weekend getaway, and AJ, who was unexpectedly sidelined due to a massive flood at his home on the morning of the game. Sammy, who displayed tremendous resilience after suffering a fat lip the previous week and a stick to the back of the head during training, showcased his commitment by taking to the field.

Warwick entered the game fresh off an impressive 5-0 victory over Shrewsbury, setting the stage for a challenging encounter. The match kicked off, and it was evident from the first five minutes that Telford was determined to control the proceedings. Their relentless pressure paid dividends as they earned their first short corner. Captain Tom Jones stepped up and delivered a thunderous strike, sending the ball crashing into the backboards, providing Telford with an early 1-0 lead.

Telford's relentless drive continued, with Vice-Captain Matt HM displaying his exceptional stick skills, crafting an exquisite goal to extend the lead to 2-0. The team's third goal was a masterpiece of precision, with Keeble delivering a pinpoint pass and Cookie applying the lightest of touches to deflect the ball into the net, leaving the keeper with no chance. Telford's pressing game was in full force, making it exceedingly difficult for Warwick to exit their own 16-yard area.

Telford's fourth goal came as Captain Tom Jones, under the guidance of Vice-Captain Matt HM, capitalized on a skillful play to record his second goal of the match. The back and midfield lines orchestrated their passes with grace, making Warwick look helpless. Liam's presence in the lineup had a profound impact on Telford's style of play. Owen found himself in the umpire's book with a green card for tackling the ball off a Warwick player before the free hit was taken.

Telford's fifth goal came shortly before halftime, with Gareth creating the opportunity and John P securing his first goal of the game. At the half-time break, the team was in high spirits and understood the importance of maintaining their pressing game and playing their style in the second half.

The second half commenced, and Telford's relentless press continued to stifle Warwick's attempts. Josh S demonstrated remarkable determination in his quest to win the ball, and Sahib showcased individual stickwork of the highest order. Telford showcased a goal of pure class when an eight-pass sequence culminated with Gareth finding the back of the net, securing his first goal for Telford, much to the delight of the team, and extending the lead to 6-0.

Warwick struggled to create meaningful attacking opportunities, with Telford's defense and pressing game making it challenging for them to mount a response. Telford's seventh and final goal was a result of a flick, which was won by Owen, who executed a remarkable run from the 25-yard line into the Dee. A mistimed tackle into his back presented an opportunity for Captain Tom Jones to complete his hat-trick, with a precise finish into the bottom right corner. The keeper's faint touch was insufficient to deny Telford.

As the match drew to a close, Nathan, who had seen little action throughout the game, showcased his composure with a remarkable save. The team collectively agreed that this save represented the Champagne moment of the match.

Telford celebrated a convincing victory, maintaining their undefeated status in the season. They expressed gratitude to the loyal supporters who showed up to cheer for the team and acknowledged the pivotal role played by the team manager, Sam. The team now looks forward to a week off before their upcoming game against Leek's second team away. Additionally, they eagerly await the rescheduled match against Lichfield, which the league secretary has mandated.

In terms of individual recognition, Will L earned the title of Man of the Match, while the D of the Day award went to Keeble. Telford's 2nd team continues to impress and sets their sights on extending their unbeaten streak as they move forward in the season.
